Welcome to the Ötztal – home to the Wildspitze and 250 other peaks soaring over 3.000 meters. Here lies Tyrol’s highest waterfall, and the Alps' most famous inhabitant, Ötzi, also hails from this region. From serene alluvial forests to the eternal ice of glaciers, from the highest church village to the stunning Aqua Dome, the Ötztal is full of natural wonders. But in the end, it’s not just the facts that matter – it’s the authentic experiences. And in the Ötztal, you’re sure to find them.
‘Ötztal's powerful nature is an endless source of energy and inspiration – for both newcomers exploring the valley and those who have been deeply connected to it for generations.’

Lake Piburg
Nestled in a hollow above Oetz, the crystal-clear green waters of Lake Piburg reflect the surrounding forests and the majestic Acherkogel. Nature lovers, hikers and swimmers can recharge their batteries here. No wonder this treasure is one of the oldest nature reserves in Tyrol - true beauty needs to be preserved.
Excursion Tip
Ötzi village with bird of prey park
How did people live in the Ötztal 5,000 years ago? How did they protect themselves from the cold, and what weapons did they use for hunting? At the Ötzi Village archaeological open-air park in Umhausen, you can step into the world of the Neolithic era and discover Ötzi’s way of life and culture. Just next door is the Birds of Prey Park, another highlight for the whole family. Vultures, eagles, falcons, and other birds of prey showcase their impressive flying skills in spectacular arena shows. An educational trail on falconry and a shop completes the experience, which is accessible to everyone.
Hiking in Hochoetz
From the mountain station at 2.000 meters, easily accessible forest trails and paths lead across the alpine meadows to the Bielefelder Hütte and the Acherberg, Balbach and Kühtailealm.
